WEBVTT Kind: captions Language: en 00:00:01.120 --> 00:00:09.120 I'm Krissy Ferris. I'm the Chief of Staff at Proof+Geist, and I'm also the lead facilitator at 00:00:09.120 --> 00:00:15.520 WIT FM, the women FileMaker organization. My story is somewhat of a typical one for the FileMaker 00:00:15.520 --> 00:00:20.720 world, but not necessarily a typical one for the tech world. That is, that I was in a totally 00:00:20.720 --> 00:00:27.920 different role, working for a medical office. We needed a tech solution to manage our data. 00:00:27.920 --> 00:00:33.680 We had data that we could not capture adequately using the systems that already existed, 00:00:33.680 --> 00:00:40.730 and so we started looking around. That was how we first came to FileMaker, and we 00:00:40.800 --> 00:00:47.920 built a solution from the ground up. Eventually, as that solution grew, we needed to do sort of 00:00:47.920 --> 00:00:55.270 more and more complex data management things with it. And, so my skills with FileMaker 00:00:55.440 --> 00:01:02.000 grew as the solution grew. And eventually, uh, grew to the point where I felt 00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:06.979 really comfortable doing it, and also really enjoyed doing it, and wanted to make it a career. 00:01:08.219 --> 00:01:14.020 Working with FileMaker has given me a ton of freedom in my life and even-- 00:01:14.560 --> 00:01:20.810 originally, that was probably one of the main attractions for me, was that I knew that I could 00:01:21.040 --> 00:01:27.440 both pick what clients I wanted to work with and also what I wanted my life to look like. 00:01:27.840 --> 00:01:34.160 I think that probably not having a background in tech might be helpful in moving into this 00:01:34.160 --> 00:01:41.390 space. If you can think about problems and be able to break them down and analyze them 00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:50.660 and think about things on a step-by-step basis, then the tech is sort of just the language. 00:01:50.880 --> 00:01:55.920 So, the, the thinking part is the hard part, and the language can come later. 00:01:55.920 --> 00:02:02.160 And you can, you can add that layer, whether it's FileMaker or it's Connect, or whatever it is, 00:02:02.160 --> 00:02:07.600 you can add the layer of the language onto the thinking. But it's much, much harder 00:02:07.600 --> 00:02:17.830 to train the thinking. I think that going to Engage is really important if you can manage to do it. 00:02:18.080 --> 00:02:26.760 Because, for the most part, we're a community that works remotely. It keeps getting bigger and 00:02:27.120 --> 00:02:33.920 it still feels like a close, tight-knit community of people who are totally willing to go out of 00:02:33.920 --> 00:02:41.339 their way to do anything they can to help you. And I think that is pretty magical, to be able to have, um, 00:02:41.440 --> 00:02:47.760 both a community that, that is growing and also one that still feels like it can be a safe 00:02:47.760 --> 00:02:54.543 home base for you. If you enjoy solving problems, then you'll be happy here.
