Georgia Department of Community Affairs
Granting Government Wishes
With FileMaker Pro, which replaced an antiquated paper system, the
division's 25 users are able to share information and quickly call
up grant data without rummaging through files. The division
processes grant applications from local governments for building
water and sewer systems, housing, mental health, handicap, and
senior citizen centers, and more. Its workers estimate that some
480 grants, on average, are active at any one time. The division
not only has to evaluate and approve or disapprove grants, it has
to review and verify their compliance with state and federal laws,
environmental issues, and other criteria.
The ease-of-use of FileMaker Pro enabled the department's workers
to develop the application on their own, without relying on outside
programmers and consultants. The workers also use its Web
publishing features to access information across the company
intranet. For a division that wanted control over the development
of its applications, the Business and Finance Assistance Division
found FileMaker Pro to be the best database solution for the job.
