New England Medical Center
On With the Slide Show
FileMaker databases built in previous versions of the software are
widely used in Dan's department. "We have six or seven databases
used for patient tracking, lab services, and by "childlife"
specialists who take care of kids in the emergency department," he
explains. But when Dan got the chance to try out the new FileMaker
Pro 6, his attention was seized by the Image Capture tool -- a
feature which allows digital images to be imported directly into a
FileMaker database. Using the power of Mac OSX, FileMaker Pro 6
imports images and image data (aperture, exposure length, flash
setting, etc.) straight from a digital camera, in a single step, to
a FileMaker database. It's no longer necessary to laboriously
import one image at a time, and Dan is counting on this feature to
greatly simplify the organizing of the department's image files.
"When I was taking pictures on slides I kept track of them by
numbers logged in a FileMaker Pro database," said Dr. Ballin.
"Image capture will make it easy to store not only the images, but
also exposure information which is useful in learning and teaching
others about medical photography. FileMaker Pro 6 image capture
will be extremely useful and will allow me to do all this
digitally."
From a drawer full of slides, entered one at a time into a
FileMaker Pro database to rapid-fire digital capture -- that's
technological progress summed up in a single picture!
